Girl From Space

One of the things I love to do is to catch up on my favourite TV shows. You can really get to know characters on TV--watch them grow, learn to love and to hate them. I'll watch various types of shows so long as they feature some aspect that is "different" from your regular crime or medical drama. My favourite shows include...

Game of Thrones This is a show I never thought I'd love, and I picked up the first season because I'd ran out of things to watch. It very quickly turned into my all-time favourite show after (spoiler alert!) Ned Stark's death, because it was the first show that seemed unpredictable. I love not knowing what is going to happen, who is going to live or die, and to truly worry about my favourite characters. It is different than most other shows, and that is why I love it. Favourite characters: Jaime Lannister, Sansa Stark, Margaery Tyrell, Daenerys Targaryen, Cersei Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Joffrey Baratheon.

Gossip Girl Sort of a guilty pleasure, Gossip Girl has become part of my high school memories. While the dramatic plots are sometimes over the top, the beautiful visuals and stunning costumes, as well as the struggle of my favourite character to find happiness, have stolen a special place in my heart. Every girl needs a girly show to watch, and mine certainly is Gossip Girl. Favourite characters: Blair Waldorf, hands down.

Doctor Who (New Who) This show is particularly interesting because I am madly in love with some episodes and seasons and find myself bored by others. The beauty of this show is that every episode has an interesting story that explores something beyond our imaginations. Alien villains are exceptionally well thought-out in many cases, and the possibilities this show opens up our minds to are magnificent and terrifying at the same time. Besides, how could I not love a show about a man showing us the wonders of the universe? However, Doctor Who sometimes gets a lot of eyerolls for cheap CGI use, especially towards the beginning of the reboot. Favourite characters: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Strax, Sally Sparrow, Weeping Angels.

The Big Bang Theory I do love sitcoms, but I usually don't follow them religiously because of the lower level of involvement they require compared to drama television. They are what I love to put on as background noise usually, or watch during dinner, but The Big Bang Theory is an exception. I've come to love the characters, the jokes, and the use of geeky material. This show might not be the most mentally challenging show to watch, but I love it nevertheless. Favourite characters: Sheldon Cooper, Amy Farrah Fowler.

Once Upon A Time A show that started out fantastic but somewhere along the way deteriorated into a complicated mess I love because I've grown so fond of the characters and visuals. Season 1 was innovative and different, which is why I loved it, and though it has become repetitive at best and confusing at worst, just watching the characters interact makes me happy. Besides, I love Disney and fairy tales, so characters I love keep showing up for half a season. What's not to love about that? Live-action Frozen? Yes, please. Favourite characters: Captain Hook, Mr. Gold, Regina Mills.

Sherlock Because how could you not? Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are an amazing pair of actors who work together so well on screen. Sherlock is a lovable a**, and Watson keeps putting up with his antics. There are a handful of surprising twists along the way and the suspension level is relatively high. Though there aren't many episodes, those that do exist are truly enjoyable. Favourite characters: Sherlock, Watson, Mycroft.

Other favourite shows: 2 Broke Girls, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, The Crown, Dracula, Galavant, The Good Wife, Homeland, Lucifer, The Nanny, Nikita, Orange is the New Black, Orphan Black, Outlander, Pretty Little Liars, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

To-watch list: 13 Reasons Why, The Alienist, Big Little Lies, Big Love, Black Sails, Downton Abbey, Gotham, The Handmaid's Tale, The Last Tycoon, Mad Men, Penny Dreadful, Reign, The Sopranos, Supernatural, This Is Us, Victoria, Vikings, Westworld. Of course, this list is always growing, because I have a little addiction problem.
